(DENVER, CO) - One in six men will have prostate cancer, however, if detected early enough, it is 100% survivable-making prostate cancer awareness and education critical. Communities across the country will be participating in the PACE Race Series-proceeds will be used to educate men and the women in their lives about prostate cancer and the importance of screenings.
The PACE Race series, whose mission is to ultimately eliminate prostate cancer by raising awareness and financial support for educational programs and local screenings, will reach 15 communities this year. Each race consists of a 5K walk/run and a one mile family fun run. The series kicked off on Fathers Day weekend in Pittsburgh, PA and ends on November 19 in Atlanta, GA. Additional race locations include Minneapolis, Columbus, Denver, Seattle, and Washington, D.C. For a complete listing of races, please see attached schedule or visit www.pacerace.org.
"This race series is crucial for men's health. Communities across the country will be working together to increase awareness about prostate cancer and the importance of being screened," said Mandy Deas, Director of Awareness Programs for the Prostate Cancer Education Council. "We're excited to be working with our partners across the country to communicate this important message."
The PACE Race is nationally presented by Sanofi-Aventis, and Reebok. The PACE Race has also partnered with the National Football League and its Tackle Prostate Cancer campaign. Robin Cole, a two-time Super Bowl champion and prostate cancer survivor, will be the spokesperson for the series. Cole's father died of prostate cancer and he and three of his brothers have been diagnosed with the disease.
Additionally, the PACE Race series has received a grant from the Lance Armstrong Foundation to cover entry fees for prostate cancer survivors and caregivers in each market.
