2nd Annual PACE Race to Raise Money for Prostate Cancer Education and Treatment

Sacramento Race Hopes to Recruit 500 Participants

(Sacramento, CA) - The 2005 Sacramento PACE Race will be held on Saturday, August 28 beginning at 8:30 a.m. at the State Capital. This year will also feature a one-mile family walk.

"The PACE Race Sacramento is the only area run/walk that raises funds and awareness for prostate cancer and education," said Doug Thurston, race director. "We hope that area men, women, and children will help this event raise money and increase awareness about prostate cancer, which is second only to lung cancer in male annual cancer deaths."

The PACE Race Series mission is to ultimately eliminate prostate cancer by raising awareness and financial support for screenings and treatment. Other race locations include Columbus, OH, Minneapolis, MN, Pittsburgh, PA, and Denver, CO. The full 2005 PACE Series schedule will be released in the coming weeks.

Sacramento PACE Race organizers hope to recruit 500 runners and walkers, which would double the participation from the inaugural year. The race is being sponsored locally by Fleet Feet Sports Sacramento.

Those interested in registering for the race should log onto www.pacerace.org. Early registration, before August 23rd, costs $15 for adults. After midnight on the 23rd, the registration fee will be $20 and $25 on race day. Early registration for children or adults only participating in the walk will be $10. After August 23, the fee will be $15 and on race day entrants will have to pay $20.

Prostate cancer afflicts one in six men in their lifetime. In fact, more than 220,000 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in the USA this year and more than 31,000 will die of the disease. For more information, please visit www.pacerace.org.
