(St. Louis, MO) - The 2005 St. Louis PACE Race will be held on Saturday, September 4 beginning at 8 a.m. in Earth City. This year will also feature a one-mile family walk.
"This community is glad to be a part of the PACE Race Series for the second year," said Jeff Neuschwander, St. Louis PACE Race Director. "Many people don't realize it, but prostate cancer strikes as many men, and causes almost as many deaths each year, as breast cancer does in women. We are committed to raising money for screenings and research and increasing awareness about prostate cancer."
The PACE Race Series mission is to ultimately eliminate prostate cancer by raising awareness and financial support for screenings and treatment. Other race locations include Columbus, OH, Minneapolis, MN, Pittsburgh, PA, and Denver, CO. The full 2005 PACE Series schedule will be released in the coming weeks.
St. Louis PACE Race organizers hope to recruit 1,000 runners and walkers with the goal of raising at least $15,000. The race is being sponsored locally by SSM DePaul Health Center, Cord North American Moving & Storage, and Fleet Feet Sports.
Those interested in registering for the race should log onto www.pacerace.org or http://www.fleetfeetstl.com/racetiming/pace_race.htm. Early registration, before August 23rd, costs $15. After midnight on the 23rd, the registration fee will be $20 and $25 on race day. Early registration for children or adults only participating in the walk will be $10. After August 23, the fee will be $15 and on race day entrants will have to pay $20.
Prostate cancer afflicts one in six men in their lifetime. In fact, more than 220,000 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in the USA this year and more than 31,000 will die of the disease. For more information, please visit www.pacerace.org.
